  6. and creator of Star Trek; of a heart attack; in Los Angeles. A
  7. former airline pilot and L.A. motorcycle cop, he turned to
  8. writing, creating episodes for Dragnet and Have Gun Will Travel.
  9. His Star Trek series (1966-69) imagined a future of
  10. intergalactic travel and utopian possibility that spawned
  11. millions of passionately devoted fans -- "Trekkies" -- and six
  12. motion pictures. Said Roddenberry: "Treating the TV audience
  13. like an intelligent species pays off."
